The longest strudel 2013. Biograd

On September 21, 2013, the longest strudel ever recorded was served on the waterfront in Biograd. Its length exceeded 1,200 meters, and the official measuring commission—together with Deputy Mayor Marijan Štofer and partners from Clarum, which donated the dough—measured an impressive 1,250 meters.

The strudel was made exclusively from Marasca sour cherries and Clarum phyllo dough sheets. In addition to Clarum, which provided the dough, and Maraska from Zadar, the preparation and baking were carried out by Biograd’s local restaurateurs in collaboration with the Biograd Secondary School, giving the strudel its distinctive and varied flavor. Šime Strikoman immortalized the event with one of his “Millennium Photographs,” marking his 373rd such work.

The entire project would not have been possible without more than 1,000 kilograms of Marasca sour cherries—an indigenous variety that grows exclusively in the area from Makarska to Zadar—donated to Biograd by the Zadar-based company Maraska. Additionally, 500 kilograms of cherry pudding were supplied by Podravka from Koprivnica.

The dough—over 500 kilograms of it—was delivered from Clarum in Nova Gradiška, while numerous sponsors provided the remaining ingredients, from sugar to oil.
